Prescription Diet Pills
When people are at the end of their rope trying to lose weight, they often wonder if there were any prescription strength weight loss pills that might solve their problem. Phentermine is a common prescription diet pill that is available on the market. People want something that has been through the rigors of the FDA and other government health organizations.
Of course it should be remembered that the deadly Ephedra and Fen-Fen made it through the approval process of the FDA. And both were yanked after leading to the death of dozens by heart failure.
This thought should lead you to understand that Phentermine is not for cosmetic weight loss. Prescription weight loss should be regulated to those that are more at risk for medical problems because of obesity. The list of side effects will explain the reason for this thought process.
Studies have shown that a “simple” 10% decrease in weight for an overweight person will cause immediate health benefits. Phentermine is to be taken to help spur weight loss of this kind, not to continue until you get to an ideal perfect fit weight. Like any diet pill, it works based on your ability to regulate your diet and exercise. It is important to remember the use of Phentermine alone cannot treat obesity. Phentermine should be combined with a healthy lifestyle including physical activity and improved diet to lose and maintain weight successfully over the long term. For short term use, Phentermine has been widely successful in achieving weight loss and reducing the risks of medical problems associated with obesity.
Health Risks-Side Effects
Since Phentermine has a similar chemical structure to amphetamines, taking Phentermine may cause a positive result in urine screening tests for amphetamines.
After a patient ceases taking Phentermine, their body may need time to adjust. The length of time this takes depends on the amount of Phentermine they were using and how long they were using Phentermine. Phentermine may cause some dangerous side effects depending on differing circumstances. The following is a list of possible side effects:
MILD
Blurred vision, dry mouth, sleeplessness, irritability, stomach upset or constipation may occur the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. Other adverse events include central nervous system effects, gastrointestinal disturbances, and changes in libido. Alcohol can increase unwanted side effects of dizziness.
MODERATE
Chest pain, pounding heart, difficulty urinating, breathing difficulties or swelling may occur while taking this medication.
SEVERE
Primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH) and cardiac valvular disease have been reported in patients receiving a combination of Phentermine and Fenfluramine (Phen-fen) or dexfenfluramine. The possibility of an association between PPH and the use of Phentermine alone cannot be ruled out.
